Choosing a blind rivet starts with the joint you need to fasten. For wholesalers and importers, a clear specification also makes quotations easier to compare and reduces the risk of ordering the wrong item.
Add the thicknesses of all layers in the joint. The selected rivet must have a published grip range that includes this total. For example, two sheets measuring 1.0 mm and 1.5 mm have a combined thickness of 2.5 mm. This calculation identifies the required grip; it does not, by itself, determine the rivet length.
A size such as 4.8 × 12 mm normally identifies the body diameter and nominal body length. Grip range describes the material thickness the specific rivet is designed to join. Two rivet designs with similar dimensions may have different grip ranges, so use the data for the exact product code.
Use the hole diameter recommended for the selected rivet. Do not assume that the drill size is identical to the nominal rivet diameter. Also identify whether you need a dome, countersunk or large-flange head, and confirm that the joint and installation tool suit the selected design.

Where joint thickness varies, compare the published options for multi-grip blind rivets. You can also review our closed-end blind rivets. The final selection should follow the product data and the requirements of the actual joint.
